Characteristics

Application

• Reinforcement of gypsum board and gypsum fiberboard joints (GKL, GVL) with any edge types (e.g., PK, UK, PLUK).
• Prevents cracks at seams during wall, ceiling, and partition finishing.
• Formation of smooth internal angles in gypsum board structures.
• Use in dry rooms (residential rooms, offices, retail spaces).
• Limitations:
  • Do not use in high-humidity rooms without additional protection.
  • Not intended for exterior work.
  • Requires pre-priming of joints before application.

Application instructions

1. Surface preparation:
   • Ensure that GKL/GVL joints are clean, free of dust and grease.
   • Prime the joints with primer (e.g., KNAUF Tiefengrund) and allow to dry (10–30 minutes).
   • Trim edges as needed to ensure a smooth seam.
2. Application of joint compound:
   • Apply the first layer of joint compound (e.g., KNAUF Uniflott or Fugen) to the joint using a trowel.
   • Ensure the joint compound evenly fills the seam.
3. Tape application:
   • Cut the KNAUF-Kurt tape to the required length using scissors or a utility knife.
   • Press the tape onto the joint, embedding it slightly into the joint compound, and smooth with a trowel, removing excess mixture.
   • Ensure the tape is fully covered with joint compound without air bubbles.
4. Finishing:
   • After the first layer dries (4–6 hours), apply a second layer of joint compound to level the surface.
   • After full drying (12–24 hours), sand the surface with fine-grit sandpaper.
   • Prime the surface before painting or wallpapering.

Use with other materials and tools

• KNAUF MP 75 plaster: Use for wall preparation before installing gypsum board, especially on uneven bases (brick, concrete). Apply plaster using a plastering machine for leveling, then mount GKL and apply KNAUF-Kurt tape for joints.
• Perforator TEH TH2609 and drill bit EPA EN-PS8-160: Use for drilling holes in concrete or brick for dowels to secure gypsum board profiles (e.g., KNAUF CD 60/27 or UD 28/27).
• Drills TEH TD1307A or TEH TD1004S: Use for installing fasteners (screws) in gypsum board profiles.
• Angle grinders TEH TG23020, TG18016, TG12512: Suitable for surface preparation (grinding, cutting materials) before mounting GKL or for processing metal profiles.
